Marisa learnt many songs, stories and ballads from the renowned
Scottish Tinker Storyteller, Sheila Stewart, and was taught how to use
‘conyach’ – how to blend the heart and soul.
She worked as Learning Resource Assistant and Playleader at Bidwell
Brook Special School. She recently led a group of 4-6 year olds through a
series of weekly workshops, culminating in a performance that blended
storytelling, puppetry, role-play games , song and mime.
Marisa recently learnt by-heart, the full
version of Robert Burn’s “Tam O’ Shanter” performing it in the traditional
setting of a Burns Night Ceremony.
“It’s taken me years to memorise it and I
thought I’d never get there, but I did, and now I carry it with me where e’er I
go.” She hopes to make Burns Night a yearly feast of increasing grandeur, and
‘to store a treasure trove of literature from the depths of history…to weave
its thick, heavy threads through
time. ‘
